Ethiopia. The Italian embassy does charity to the poor of Addis Ababa as in the days of General Graziani
The Italian Embassy in Addis Ababa distributed food to 140 poor families during Ethiopian Easter. Various local sources, including members of civil society, report that the initiative would have been agreed with the nationalist Amhara regime and Premier Abiy Ahemed Ali for the purpose of pure propaganda. A gesture that resembles the charity bestowed by Viceroy Graziani during the period of fascist military occupation. In the inhuman Ethiopian civil war, which began in 2020, Italy played and is still playing a decisive role alongside the Addis Ababa and Asmara regime with the clear objective of regaining the fascist geostratetic hegemony lost in 1942
On the occasion of Ethiopian Easter, the Italian Embassy in Addis Ababa distributed food to 140 poor families in the Yeka district where the Italian Embassy is located. The charity was linked to the annual promotion of Italian culinary traditions around the world “Week of Italian Cuisine”.
In itself, the initiative should not attract any kind of criticism, on the contrary only praise. Unfortunately, various local sources, including members of civil society, report that the initiative would have been agreed with the nationalist Amhara regime and Premier Abiy Ahemed Ali for the purpose of pure propaganda.
The Italian Embassy in the Ethiopian capital has a horrible history. It was built during the fascist occupation of the country to enhance the grandeur of the Fascist Empire and used as the residence of the Viceroy Rodolfo Graziani and, later, of Prince Amedeo of Savoy-Aosta. This is the largest Italian Embassy in Africa, a real citadel (fortified at the time) also containing a riding stable for horses. It was known to the Ethiopians as Villa Graziani.
An embassy dripping with blood, where the war criminal Rodolfo Graziani signed without any remorse or doubt the orders for extra judicial executions and the mass deportations of thousands of civilians in order to “break the foolish resistance of these primitive Ethiopians who must accept the their destiny of subjection to Roman civilization ”as he often liked to repeat.
Villa Graziani, (modestly renamed Villa Italia after WW2) but still known by the Ethiopians for its terrible original name, has also hosted and protected for 29 years two well-known Ethiopian war criminals and high hierarchs of the terrible dictatorial regime of Menghistu: the DERG. These are former Foreign Minister Berhanu Bayeh and former Chief of Staff Addis Tedla. For 29 years, Italy has refused the requests of the EPRDF (Ethiopian People’s Revolutionary Democratic Front) coalition to bring them to Ethiopian justice to be tried for crimes against humanity committed during the 1975–1991 civil war.
Bayeh and Tedla are considered the architects of the “Red Terror” an extermination policy designed to subjugate the Ethiopian population to the Menghistu regime which caused 500,000 deaths between 1976 and 1978. Tedla was also responsible for the countless massacres of civilians committed in Tigray. Eritrea and Oromia in an attempt to bend the rebel movements Eritrean People’s Liberation Front — EPLF — (Eritrea), TPLF (Tigray) and Oromo Liberation Front OLA (Oromia) which in 1991 managed to liberate the country. The EPLF managed to obtain the independence of Eritrea from Ethiopia as a reward for having participated in the long liberation struggle.
The two war criminals, ostentatiously protected by the Italian government despite the irrefutable evidence of war crimes and against humanity committed, were handed over to the federal government on 28 December 2020 only after the Farnesina had obtained confirmation of their pardon wanted by Premier Abiy Ahmed Ali. Grace granted following the pressure suffered by the Ethiopian Premier by the nationalist Amhara leadership.
Villa Graziani dominates from above one of the poorest neighborhoods of the Ethiopian capital where the luxury of the former residence of the Viceroys and the numerous pharaonic festivals held inside it contrast with the degrading misery of the population to whom Italy has never implemented serious programs development, as if the thousands of poor Ethiopians were just a “visual disturbance”.
The historic lack of aid to these poor neighbors makes the distribution of food to the 140 beneficiary families even more deplorable. Practically an “alms to the poor” in favor of the regime’s propaganda aimed at ultimately cementing the shameful friendship between Italy and the current Ethiopian government controlled by the nationalist Amhara leadership and by the primitive and bloody Eritrean dictator Isaias Afwerki, the two main actors of the civil war that began in Oromia in July 2021 and in Tigray in November 2021 which has spread throughout the country and continues today in the total indifference of the world “distracted” by the Covid19 pandemic and now by the Ukrainian conflict.
The war in Ukraine if compared to the Ethiopian conflict becomes a children game. In less than two years, 500,000 civilians died in Tigray alone. Premier Abiy, the Eritrean dictator and the nationalist Amhara leadership (which has many similarities with the Ukrainian nationalists in the germ of ethnic cleansing) have been carrying out a siege for 18 months and the blocking of all humanitarian aid against the Tigray danger of starvation over 3 million people. He also carried out horrific ethnic cleansing in Oromoia, against the Oromo ethnic group who represent 40% of the Ethiopian population.
The war unleashed by Abiy, Afwerki, and the Amhara Leaders is the most horrible and inhumane that humanity has known after the 1994 Rwanda Holocaust. Hundreds of thousands of civilians slaughtered, millions of internal refugees, tens of thousands of women and girls raped. Since January 2022, the Addis Ababa regime has ordered its troops to burn alive the Tigrinya and Oromo rebels captured during the fighting.
In this inhuman war Italy has played and is still playing a decisive role alongside the Addis Ababa and Asmara regime with the clear objective of regaining the fascist geostratetic hegemony lost in 1942. While the majority of the entrepreneurs of the Western civil world, have withdrawn because of these horrors and the majority of European nations condemn the crimes against humanity committed by these two dictators by imposing heavy sanctions, our companies compete to occupy the vacant market spaces and our government defends a sword deals with these regimes that commit unspeakable crimes against humanity with the aim of replacing the Ethnic Federation (which has guaranteed almost 30 years of peace and development) with Amhara ethnic domination, destroying the country among the most modern and advanced in Africa .
